Agility is transforming more and more into a sport that prioritizes verbal cues. Before we start teaching our dogs how to do backsides and threadles, we need to teach them the concept of listening to words as much as (or more than) watching our bodies. As the agility world has progressed in our training methods, we now know how to help them prioritize our words. The very beginning of that training starts with teaching control of our reinforcement.

 

Do It When I Cue It is all about teaching your dog to understand that we want them to do WHAT we want, WHEN we want it- whether that's grabbing a toy, taking a treat, or running into a tunnel. Instead of using methods that rely on tricking the dog, and expecting them to learn through repeated failure, we do so by breaking down behaviors and using positive reinforcement to teach our dogs the what and when.
